Boating Safety Classes for Children

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary carries its boating education to youth groups (minimum 20 persons) aged kindergarten through junior high. The classes are by appointment only and last 35 to 55 minutes based on the age of the children.

We stress:School Class

  • The importance of learning to swim
  • How to help someone in the water
  • Why you should leave a float plan
  • The importance of wearing a life jacket at all times
  • Don't pollute
  • Drink lots of water
  • Why you should keep your boat balanced
  • Have an observer on the boat
  • Stay with your boat, stay together

We also offer a lesson for children and youth held on board the USCG Cutter Morgenthau.

Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Lesson includes a tour of the cutter.
